We Honored Our Moms with a Special Day...

Thomas and his twin brother Aidan WELCOME all the moms, and families...to OUR MOM'S DAY SHOW!
Ben does a great job playing the bells for our "Spring" song...
"Skina-Marinka" is an old favorite song that we changed the words to, just for our MOMS!

We Learned About Hens, Chicks, and Plants at the NHS Greenhouse with mrs.. Ashworth!

May was a very busy month!! We Started Composting! We save the leftovers from our lunch and snack, and let the redworms munch away...

Kinders do "kompost!" With the help of the NHS FFA, we were able to start our very own compost bin!

Visiting The NHS "SUGAR SHACK" With Our Fourth Grade Buddies..

Mr. Breene explained how the EVAPORATOR worked..
The big round cylinder shaped tanks hold all of the sap that has been collected from the buckets that were hung on the maple trees. Soon it will all be boiled slowly in the evaporator.
The water in the sap evaporates through the hole in the roof of the shack, while a hot fire keeps the sap boiling!

On One VERY Cold Day, We Learned About How to TAP the SUGAR MAPLE!

The sap did NOT taste that sweet.
It was a lot of hard work!
Mrs. Ashworth showed us how to drill a hole on the south side of the tree...
and how to hammer in the spile with a special tool.
We'll have to wait for enough sap to drip out before it can be boiled.

THE SAP IS RUNNING! click here

One February day we went outside to measure the snowfall...
...then the snow began to melt, and the sugar maples began to wake up...
...the buckets were hung on the taps,(or spiles.)
...and the sap began to drip, drip, drip.
We'll be back to check those buckets tomorrow...

We thought they looked pretty "cool"...
but not as "cool" as we looked in OUR OWN "glasses"" ...
on the 100th day of school...

IT'S JANUARY...TIME TO BUDDY-UP AND READ!!! (click on photo to enlarge)

One cold January day, we teamed up with our 4th grade buddies to read to one another. Each kinder was able to choose 1-2 books at his/her reading level, while the 4th graders did the same. The result was nothing but smiles, and happy faces!!!
