Charlie and his mom, Mrs. Ashworth, show the maple syrup that the NHS students worked so hard to make...
...and that we all got to eat together! here the NHS students along with Mr. Breene feast with us...only they tasted the syrup that WE made for them to try!

Visiting The NHS "SUGAR SHACK" With Our Fourth Grade Buddies..

Mr. Breene explained how the EVAPORATOR worked..
The big round cylinder shaped tanks hold all of the sap that has been collected from the buckets that were hung on the maple trees. Soon it will all be boiled slowly in the evaporator.
The water in the sap evaporates through the hole in the roof of the shack, while a hot fire keeps the sap boiling!

On One VERY Cold Day, We Learned About How to TAP the SUGAR MAPLE!

The sap did NOT taste that sweet.
It was a lot of hard work!
Mrs. Ashworth showed us how to drill a hole on the south side of the tree...
and how to hammer in the spile with a special tool.
We'll have to wait for enough sap to drip out before it can be boiled.
